Zumba Fitness Game Review for the Wii Console

By Shawn Gruvland

This article is a big picture view of what people on the web are saying about the Zumba Fitness game on the Wii console to see if it's going to be a worthwhile purchase for you.

This article will focus on the original Zumba Fitness game for the Wii and I'll dedicate a future article towards reviewing the new Zumba Fitness 2 game.

The feedback for Zumba Fitness for the Wii console has been fantastic. People love how the game delivers on the Zumba promise of moving your body, exercising those calories away and having a ball. The music is great, the routines are hot and people love grooving to them.

The main thing that comes up with some reviews is that it isn't easy to pick up the more intricate dance moves that Zumba encompasses. Many users that also have attended Zumba dance classes in a studio say that it's easier to learn complicated moves in a class because you can get feedback from an instructor. Others noted that the Zumba Wii game is a great way to get started, even though sometimes not as easy to learn the steps, because you're in the comfort of your own home and there's no intimidation of showing up at a public class.

There are also positive comments about the amount of features the Zumba Wii game has in terms of difficulty settings, different routines and overall options in the game. The down side to that is that sometimes it's confusing to understand all of the differences between the difficulty levels, the tutorials, the different venues to unlock and all that. People appreciated all of the stuff in the game, but that it was a bit confusing to figure out the differences sometimes.

The main thing that online reviewers said about the game is that it really does play well, with most people saying that they "loved it", "couldn't wait to come home and play it" and "it's a great way to sweat".

Zumba utilizes a hip belt that you wear with your controller that allows the game to track your movements. Some reviewers mentioned that the tracking wasn't that accurate with times getting penalized or rewards for things that made little sense. This is also something that other games suffere from, so it's really not a Zumba Fitness issue for the Wii, but more overall expectations about perfect accuracy and the technology not being able to deliver it. Regardless, the reviewers mentioned the inaccuracy but it was never bubbled up to be anything significant that detracted from the overall fun of the game.

Zumba Fitness for the Wii has been a huge success ever since its release. It does have some issues that are minor for most reviewers, including accuracy in tracking your movements, difficulty in learning the dance moves without an instructor and overall confusion associated with lots of features and different modes. Those issues were way overshadowed by the main premise of the game to get you to dance to hot music, move your body & burn calories and have a great time in your living room.
