Important Guidelines on How You Should Select Quality Camping Cookware and Utensils

By Sahil Cilimonas

When shopping for cookware and utensils for camping purposes, you should make it a point to buy those that are made using materials of superior quality. That way, you won't have to keep buying a new set since the previous one lasted only for a short time. The cookware and utensils are preferred to be made from aluminum because it is one of the most excellent materials. Aluminum is preferred because it is lightweight, sturdy and has good conduction abilities. It is also inexpensive. Camping at times needs slow cooking while people gather around the fire for small talk and laughter. Since aluminum has superior heat-conducting abilities, it can keep the meal cooking. Stainless steel can also be a good material. When it comes to heat conduction, stainless steel is inferior. It is, however, stronger than aluminum.

Stainless steel cookware is the preferred option for meals that have to be cooked in high heat and for a longer time. If you want durable cookware and utensils, you should choose the most durable material: titanium. If you compare it to stainless steel, it is stronger but has inferior cooking capabilities. They may be the more expensive choices, but when it comes to camping cookware and utensils that last a long time, they are the best options. Everything in a camp need to be an easy thing to handle, that goes for setting camp, to cooking of food and cleaning the utensils and cookware. That explains the influx of so many cookware and utensils that have the non-stick feature.

The material used to make the cookware and utensils would have a huge influence on the type of non-stick coating that would be applied to it. The non-stick element helps to keep food from sticking onto the cookware and utensil making it easy to clean them after use. Keep in mind, however, that the delicate coating is sensitive to abrasion. If you could, try to keep the camping gear light. It would be better if you stick only to bringing those that you need and choose the lighter ones. Heavy metal cookware should be compensated by getting plastic cutlery instead. These plastic cutlery will not cost you too much. You can get plastic cutlery, and containers.

Packing light would also require you to practice a bit of creativity or innovativeness. There are multifunction utensils that you can now bring. As an example, six people can eat off two large trays together so you don'thave to bring six individual plates. Did you know that you can also eat from pot lids, or that plates can also serve as pot lids? You can as well improvise lids by using frying pans. One large cooking pot could be used to boil water, cook meals and make tea. Feel free to use your hands when it comes to eating and have one or two variations of serving spoons.

Once you have an idea of the ideal material for the cookware and utensils, you then have to factor in the issue of quantity of items to buy. Your two choices would be to buy per piece or to buy an entire set. It would be cheaper to buy camping kitchen gear in a set. You can bring a couple of pieces along and leave the rest for use at home. Buying them per piece is also another option, especially if you will only buy them when they are needed. Depending on the kind of camping you will be doing, each of these utensils and cookware will have their pros and cons.
