LG BD630 Network Blu-ray Disc Player: It May Very Well Be The Right One For You

By Shai Warne

Even though it is a basic looking disc player, the LG BD630 Network Blu-ray Disc Player's looks are deceiving. On the player's face it has an on/off button, along with play/pause, stop and eject. A USB slot is located on the right side, and in the center is the disc drawer. It is not cheap looking, and just like they say, great things can come in little packages, especially when it is what's inside that is important.

This small player features a remote with batteries included, a standard cable to connect plus a pretty good manual. The cable for power is connected, and it features a composite video out, stereo RCA audio out, Component Video and HDMI out, a Coax Digital Audio out, and you're able to connect your home network to a LAN port. Since this is a low-priced model, you can't play your video files because it's not DLNA enabled. If you want to stream videos, you will need to have an external hard disk or thumb drive. You can't enable this by way of ethernet connection but this option is available on more costly models.

This player can connect to a 1080p HDTV or a typical analogue TV. You will be able to view videos clearly as the output can match the TV's native resolution. It is possible to link an external disc drive with the USB port, or even a USB thumb drive. It could support as many as 4 drive partitions and isn't very picky about the format of the hard drive. It should take you just a couple of minutes to set the player up to the TV. The device can easily load and playback Blu Ray discs. The up conversion from analog to 1080p video is sufficient and doesn't take away from the movie experience. The disc tray is well-built and doesn't seem to get damaged easily.

The device is able to update the firmware. Use the Lan port or download from the LG web site, and burn a disc and then play it on a USB drive. It will be interesting to see if LG is going to continue to support this device when further firmware updates are needed. The fact that this unit has the ability to play local media files, can make the price a good bargain. Especially when you add in Blu Ray playback that is very good, quick loading times, pretty good up-conversions for DVDs, and much more, this is worth the cost.

The LG BD630 Network Blu-ray Disc Player is everything that it claims it is. Before you rush out to get it, you ought to decide on a budget and calmly take a look at the other consumer reviews.
