Follow These Major Five Tips To Look Great on Camera

By Nola Sonderberg

oday is the big occasion! Birthdays, graduations, weddings and anniversaries are special lifetime events. Naturally, you want to look-as Perez Hilton would say, amaze-balls. Especially since you just know the pictures are going to be posted all over Facebook quicker than your Aunt Franny spreads gossip. Even though you cannot look exactly like your favorite movie star, you can look exactly like your own, true, best self!

#1 Tip: Be mindful of your chin.

If the camera is too close to you, you may tend to pull back your head and cause your chin to double up! But the only thing that will happen is you will have a double chin-look and you will be sorry you were in the picture. Tall people who have their picture taken with the camera positioned at a low angle may end up looking as if they have a double chin. This is definitely not desirable. One way to handle this is to jut the chin out to make it appear less chubby.

#2 Tip: Keep good posture to look slimmer.

If you are short, you should understand that when photos are taken from a lower angle, you appear taller. Just keep tabs on your chin! It is also possible to appear slimmer if you stand with one shoulder closer to the camera, at an angle. You will probably appear wider when the photo is taken straight on.

#3 Tip: Double-check the lighting - even if you aren't a professional photographer.

Being lit from above you is going to throw dark shadows across your face, particularly under the eyes. Unless you want to look like Bela Lugosi in Dracula, this is not a hot look. The brighter it is, the better you will look. More light means less shadows and fewer unflattering circles and lines.

#4 Tip: Never stare right at the camera.

If you are superbly photogenic (like Marilyn Monroe) you can face the camera square-on. Other people look better at a slight angle. There are others who are aware of their good side or good angle. Since we are not all built in perfect symmetry, this is the simple truth. Look at your profiles and decide which your good side is. Most researchers agree that the left is best!

#5 Tip: Just before the flash, blink your eyes.

Just prior to the click of the camera, close and open your eyes. This is a very old trick, but it works very well. In addition to preventing you from blinking and looking ridiculous in the picture, your eyes will appear fresh without that glaze that comes over your eyes when you wait too long for the photographer to take the photo.
